The Nereths

The Nereths are a type of elven people that thrive below the ocean’s surface. They’ve created many societies and cities in cavernous formations, their most prized being the city of Azuris.

 

Unlike humans or mortal men, Nereths are ‘immortal’ and cannot age nor die of disease. But just like others of their kind, the Nereths can die from fatal acts of violence. Upon seeing the destruction of man, the Nereths sought to protect their world of Azuris from their touch believing that mortal men would only corrupt their home. So with the help of their water companions, the water nymphs, they created the perilous maelstrom. 

 

Elves of other regions would describe the Nereths as ‘dark mist’ elves since they live within the depths of water and have darker, more blue toned complexions compared to others. They can thrive on land for periods of time as long as there are bodies of water to sustain themselves with, since water is their source of life and element. But living in the depths makes living under the sun unmanageable and thus the Nereths can only surface at night under the moon’s glow. They may also thrive under dark, cloudy skies and rain, but misty or thick fogs are their preference–hence the nickname ‘dark mist’ elves.
